NatureWatch NZ down briefly for a server upgrade.

If you're wondering why NatureWatch NZ is not loading, and it's the middle of the day on Tuesday 17 June, it's because our NZ web hosting company is doing a big upgrade of their servers. We'll be back online soon. Thanks.

About NZBRN

The New Zealand Bio-Recording Network (NZBRN) is a charitable trust dedicated to increasing New Zealanders' engagement with and knowledge of nature.

Our main product is NatureWatch NZ, a free, online website for exploring and recording New Zealand biodiversity. You can record your observations, get observations identified, comment on and help others identify their observations, create and join projects, learn about species, and all sorts of other snazzy things. Only with all our observations together can we really see nature and how it's changing.

This blog is about NZBRN, including how to use NatureWatch NZ and some of the interesting species distributions and changes that are being revealed in everyone's observations.

Acknowledgements

Development of NZBRN has been primarily funded by the New Zealand Government's Terrestrial & Freshwater Biodiversity Information System Fund (TFBIS).

Our new web platform, NatureWatch NZ, is powered by iNaturalist and our main developer and hosting company is egressive, a New Zealand IT company specialising in open-source software.

Our legacy NZBRN website (2005–2012) was adapted for New Zealand from the successful, prize-winning Swedish Artportalen (species gateway) system and securely hosted at Landcare Research, the New Zealand Government's environmental research institute.
